Homemade Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches

I was craving these yummy treats all summer and just finally got around to making them! They are not too hard to make, I only wish I had made a double batch!!  They are going to be gone way too soon!

Photo may not be too great, but they taste great!
They are just the right size - you won't feel TOO guilty. Remove from the freezer just a couple minutes before you take a bite - the cookie will be soft and chewy.  Mmmmm - Terrific!

Cookies

2 sticks butter
½ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 T. water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup flour (I use 1/2 wheat and 1/2 white flour)
1 tsp. baking soda
½ t. salt
3 Cups Oats
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional - I don't use)
1 cup Chocolate Chips

Make cookies into even size balls, a bit larger than a traditional chocolate chip cookie.
Bake on stone at 350 degrees for about 14 minutes. (Convection Bake at 325 degree for about 12 minutes).
Once cookies are pulled from oven press them down to flatten out. Remove from Stone and allow to cool completely on a rack.
Put Breyer's Natural Vanilla ice cream between two cookies, wrap in plastic wrap and freeze.

Candy Wrapper

This is definitely my new favorite die for the Big Shot!! (You can see from the post on Sunday Sept. 26, that I used this die for the Halloween treat.) This time we used the Candy Wrapper die for 2 versions of a Candy Wrapper for Christmas.

One version stands up, with only 1 end "twisted".  The other version has "twists" at both ends.  An option is to punch a 3/4" circle in one panel of the wrapper, add a piece of window sheet, and voila - you have a tiny window to allow you to peek inside!

Here are the directions:
All the pieces

Cut out a piece of Old Olive card stock with the Candy Wrapper die and your Big Shot. Fold all of the score lines for easier assembly later. Don't neglect the diagonal scores on the ends!  On Whisper White card stock, stamp the ornament from "Delightful Decorations" (pg. 35) using the Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Pad.

Punch ornament out with Ornament XL punch. Set aside.

Apply Sticky Strip to the 1/4" end of the Candy Wrapper.

Remove backing from Sticky Strip, and assemble the box.  It lines up remarkably well!

Work the ends of the Candy Wrapper until they are extremely pliable.  Once you've done this, you should be able to gently twist the ends (about a 1/4 turn) and flare the little fins out, by prying them open, gently, with your finger tips.
View from the end looks like this.

Decorate how you wish.  On my example, there is a 6" x 1" strip of Jolly Holiday DSP that is wrapped around the Candy Wrapper like a band.  Then the punched ornament is attached with a Dimensional. Finally, there is a little gold cording (non Stampin' Up!) knotted around the top of the ornament.
Deliciously Cute!
Enjoy!!

Homemade and to Die For

This project is a cute little goodie bag that is just perfect for giving a homemade treat!  Whether you like to bake or make candy at the holidays, any delicious treat from your kitchen will be extra special when packaged like this!

Start with the new Mini Lunch Sacks (item 121031 Holiday Mini Catalog) that have a charming scalloped edge! You get 10 for $4.95!  Roll across the bag twice with the "Take a Sip" Wheel using Chocolate Chip ink.  Fold the top edge down and lightly sponge the scalloped edge with Real Red ink.
The tag is made with the a la carte stamp "Homemade". Use Real Red ink and stamp it on Whisper White card stock. Punch it out with the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle XL punch. The  tag is then layered on a 2 1/2" circle of Real Red card stock (also a punch).  The whole thing is finished with a lovely bow made from Real Red 5/8" Satin Ribbon. Very Easy. Very attractive!

Tiny Turkey Treat

I have been working little by little since last Thursday night to get my Stamp Club projects photographed and added to my Blog.  I'm still not quite there.  So instead of trying to do it in 1 big post, I am breaking it down into smaller ones.
We did 3 fun projects last week.  This is the first of the 3:  Tiny Turkey Treat
He is really fun and easy! Here are Step by Step instructions:

All the pieces you will need.
The Petal Punch is designed to punch out the shape AND score the folds. Because of this, you cannot see what you are doing by turning punch upside down.

So go ahead and use the Petal Punch right-side up, and press down with punch on a table top.

You will need 2 of these.  I like Crumb Cake or Soft Suede card stock.

Now you can assemble the "box".  Attach a tiny piece of Sticky Strip to 3 of the petals on 1 piece.

Now you can peel off the backing and stick the pieces together at the first petal.
Go ahead and finish assembling box at the 2 other sticky petals.  When finished, it should look like this:

To make the face, simply punch a 1" circle out of Whisper White card stock. For eyes, you will use the Owl Punch.  Use Basic Black card stock to punch out the largest eyes and the small pupils.  Use Whisper White card stock to punch out the smaller eyes. Glue them together with a Glue Pen. Here is a close up of the eye pieces you will punch out:

To make waddle, you can use a scrap of Riding Hood Red card stock cut about 3/4" wide. Put it in the Scallop Border Punch and punch.
When removed, it will look something like this:
Now turn that same piece of card stock over, and put it back in punch. You should try to line it up at about the same spot as the first placement. Punch.
When you remove it this time, it should look something like this:
Yours might look a little different, or it may take a few trys.  But that is the general shape you are trying to achieve.  Then you simply snip out the piece for the waddle.

Using the Scallop Circle Punch, punch 1 each of Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, and More Mustard card stock. Snip toward the center between each scallop on the Cajun Craze one.

Do the same with the More Mustard one, but at one point, let your scissors completely snip out a wedge. This will become the turkey's beak.

Now do the same thing with the Early Espresso one, except this time, snip out a piece that is 2 scallops wide. (It will look like a heart shape). This will become the turkey's feet.

Starting with the Early Espresso "feathers", attach to the back of the Petal box. Be careful not to attach your feather layers too high, or it could make your turkey too heavy and fall backwards.

Attach the More Mustard and the Cajun Craze "feathers".

Attach the waddle, beak, eyes and face to the front side of Petal box.

Attach the feet.

Your turkey will look like this from the top:

He is just the right size to hold a single Hershey Nugget.  This should also help him stand up straight!

He will look very cute at each place setting of your Thanksgiving Table.  Or use these as little treats to give away to friends during November!

Cute & Spooky Petal Treats

I have been working all week on these darling little Petal Treats! They are consuming me! I made 2 dozen or so, combined with the Matchbox treats and the Candy Wrapper treats and took them to my husband's office. (Even though they are simple, I won't go to this much work on treats to hand out to Trick-Or-Treaters!)
This way, they get a bit of admiration before the treat gets eaten and the "creation" gets tossed.
Have you ever done that?  You make something to give away, but it turns out so well, that you want to  KEEP it instead? I'll bet you have!  Haha.  We have serious problems!!

Anyway, these were completely CASED from Patti Lee (I'm sure using a lot of her ideas lately). There is also a Spider that turned out well, but all the spiders went to my husband's office.  I will probably be making more, so when I do, I will post the photo of him too. Each of these Petal Treats holds a single Hershey Nugget.

Yesterday was the first of the Calendar Classes.  Boy did they turn out GREAT!  Here is a sample of some of the pages:

I still have spots open for the November 6 Class.  So if you haven't signed up, make sure you do!

Supplies for all these projects can be purchased through me!

Spooky Supper

My kids used to LOVE dinner on Halloween night. We would try to eat a little early so we'd still have plenty of time to get ready for Trick-or-Treating or attending a Harvest Festival. I would come up with a special spooky menu and although the alterations to the food sometimes made it less than appealing (to Ron & I) the girls thought it was WONDERFUL!  A sample menu was:
"Mystery Meat Loaf" - which had purple food color in it.
"Monster Mashed Potatoes  - leave some of the peels on to make them "dirty" or turn them green with food color.
"Ghoulish Green Beans" - leave them alone, to the kids green beans are scary enough!
"Blue Blobs" - always a favorite, these were Biscuits made blue with food color

Of course Jello with gummy worms would be a great choice. Dirt Cups (the jello/coolwhip/oreo crumbs concoction) was a favorite for dessert. If you want to get really creepy, make sure you serve your dinner with "Vampire Blood" (tomato or strawberry juice) or "Monster Mud" (chocolate milk).

I'm sure I must have a photo or two somewhere of our Halloween dinners, but I just can't locate them! (Those days were definitely before digital cameras!) But now it's easy to find hundreds of ideas and pictures on the Internet!  Just try searching Halloween Food or Halloween Recipes. But don't forget that just being a little creative with whatever you have on hand will still be lots of fun!
Bon appetit!
